How To Cook A Turkey In A Roasting Bag
Juicy, flavorful, and perfectly roasted every time! Just season, bag, and bake for a foolproof holiday centerpiece.
Ingredients:
• 1 oven roasting bag
• 1 turkey (8 to 24 lbs)
• 2 tablespoons of butter, melted
• 1 onion, quartered
• 4-6 garlic cloves, peeled
• 3 carrots, cut into 1-inch pieces
• 1 teaspoon flour
• 1 tablespoon salt
• 1 tablespoon black pepper
• 1 tsp. poultry seasoning
• 1 tsp paprika
• ½ tsp crushed red pepper flakes
• ½ tsp ground ginger
• 1 tsp dried thyme
Instructions:
Preheat oven to 350°F.
Mix salt, pepper, poultry seasoning, paprika, red pepper flakes, ginger, and thyme.
Shake flour inside the roasting bag. Place in roasting pan.
Add onion, garlic, and carrots to the bag.
Rub turkey with melted butter and sprinkle seasoning mix over it.
Place turkey in the bag, on top of veggies. Seal with twine and cut 4-6 slits in the top.
Roast according to weight (see chart below).
When the turkey reaches 180°F in the thickest part of the thigh, remove from oven.
Let rest for 15 minutes in the bag, then carve and serve!
Cooking Times by Weight:
• 8 to 12 lbs: 2 ¾ to 3 hours
• 12 to 14 lbs: 3 to 3 ¾ hours
• 14 to 18 lbs: 3 ¾ to 4 ¼ hours
• 18 to 20 lbs: 4 ¼ to 4 ¾ hours
• 20 to 24 lbs: 4 ¾ to 5 ¼ hours
