How to make soft and fluffy Star Bread
Here’s what you’ll need:
2 and 1/2 cup bread flour (312g) or all purpose flour
1 and 1/2 tsp instant yeast (4g)
1/2 tsp salt (3g)
1 large egg
3/4 cup milk (190ml)
2 tbsp honey (24g)
1/2 tsp vanilla extract (3ml)
3 tbsps unsalted butter (42g)
1/2 cup hazelnut spread-divided
Instructions:
1. In a bowl, mix together flour, yeast and salt. Then add, egg, milk, honey and vanilla.
2. Mix until incorporated. Then add butter and mix until fully absorbed.
3. Transfer to a lightly floured counter then knead until smooth and elastic.
4. Coat with oil and place in a bowl, then cover for 1 hour or until doubled in size.
5. Punch air out, divide into 3 equal portion. Cover and bench rest for 10 minutes.
6. Roll out each dough ball to 10 inches in diameter.
7. Place in a baking sheet, lined with parchment paper.
8. Place 1/4 cup hazelnut spread and spread evenly.
9. Then place the another rolled out dough, then repeat the process.
10. Roll out the third dough on top and seal the edges.
11. Place dip saucer on the top center and start cutting into 16 strands.
12. Hold 2 strands and twist away twice and pinch the ends to seal. Pls refer to the video for easy visual.
13. Repeat the process till the last strand.
14. Cover for 20 minutes. Preheat oven at 170C (340F) at this moment.
15. Brush star bread with eggwash and bake for 25 minutes or until light golden.
16. Let it cool down a bit then brush with melted butter.
17. Serve and enjoy!
